The Linscott-Rumford Elementary School 2017 Walk-a-Thon

The Walk-a-Thon is a pledge-like fundraiser allowing sponsorship for each lap completed or a flat donation for participating.

Last year we raised over $9,500 which was used to fund multiple field trips including a historical trolley tour of Woburn, a trip to the zoo, and the State House. Additionally, we brought over 16 in-house enrichment programs to the school including The Map Lady, The Prince and the Pauper, Explore the Ocean, Top Secret Science, and Birds of Prey!


What’s even better is that all trips and programs were free of charge to our kids!

Plus, we gave $10 per student to the teachers for classroom supplies.

At an extended lunch recess on September 29th, all students will get to participate in the Walk-a-Thon.

The students in Grades 1-5 will have 30 minutes to complete as many laps as possible around the school building as parent volunteers cheer them on and track the number of laps completed.

The Kindergarten Class will complete the Walk-a-Thon in the playground area with help from volunteers (maybe you??).

After 30 minutes, the volunteers will record and tally up the number of laps completed by each student.

The tallied Sponsor Sheet, donation receipts and money envelope will be sent home on Monday, October 2nd for to the students to collect the money.

Finding sponsors is your most important job and we’ve found it to be easier than we thought! Grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, family friends, and co-workers are often all too happy to help – all you have to do is ask. As always, all donations are tax-deductible.

Working together, the Walk-a-Thon can be a huge success and allow us to continue providing our students with field trips and in-house enrichment programs throughout the year.

If each student brings in $50 in sponsored donations, we would raise $10,600!

And just to give the kids a little more motivation, a pinch more incentive, and a chance to have more fun, the following rewards and raffles are in place:

• All students who return their Sponsor Sheets will receive a novelty toy

• The classroom which raises the most amount of money will receive a popcorn and lemonade party

• All students who participate in the Walk-A-Thon will get Linscott-Rumford Lanyard

• All students who return their Sponsor Sheets by Wednesday, September 27th will be entered in a drawing to win a $5 WuBurger Gift Card!  (Shout out to WuBurger for the donated cards!!!) There will be one winner for each classroom.

• All students who return $30 in Sponsor money will receive a Cal’s Cart (school store) voucher

• All students who raise at least $50 AND turn their collected sponsor money in by October 11th will be entered in a raffle to win one of the following prizes:

o   One Hour of Glow Bowling at Woburn BowlaDrome (1 winner)

o   Lazer Craze Pass (1 winners)

o   Boston Rock Gym (2 winners)

o   Dragon Speech Recognition Software and T Shirt (6 winners)

o   Woburn Showcase Gift Card (2 winners)

o   Vinkari Safari Pass for 5 visits (1 winner)

o   One Month Pass for karate lessons at Peaceful Warriors (1 winner)

o   One Hour Pass for Altitude Trampoline (4 winners)


• The 2 students who raise the most money will earn a GARMIN ACTIVITY TRACKER

And there’s one more thing!

If we meet the goal of $7,000, the top earners from each grade will get to SLIME Mr. Wells on stage in front of the whole school!!!!


Friday, September 15th Kickoff

Mr. Wells will explain at a school wide assembly all about the Walk-A-Thon Sponsor Sheets that will be sent home with the students


Wednesday, September 27th Sponsor Sheets Due Back at School

All students who turn in their sponsor sheets will get a novelty toy and be entered in a raffle for a $5 Gift Card to WuBurger


Friday, September 29th WALK-A-THON DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eat a good breakfast, wear your walking shoes and get ready to have some fun!!

Lunch Recess will be extended by 10 minutes

The first group starts walking at 11:30am, the last group will finish at 1:30pm


Monday, October 2nd Sponsor Sheets with tallies go home
The Sponsor Sheets, tallied with the number of laps completed and donation money due, will be sent home along with an envelope to collect the money. If all monies (flat donations) were collected before the event, sheets will NOT be sent home again


Wednesday, October 11th – Sponsor Sheets and Money are due

Friday, October 13th – Awards Assembly

Amount raised will be announced and prizes will be awarded and, if we all did our part, and reach our goal, Mr. Wells gets slimed!!!!
